Napa Valley and Sonoma Are Having a Culinary Moment!

BLOG Tracy Warr August 19, 2026

There is a certain kind of energy that takes over a place when its food scene starts to click. Napa Valley has that energy right now. It is showing up everywhere, in a St. Helena kitchen with a genuine claim to culinary history, in a Sonoma restaurant that just joined an incredibly elite club, and in a run of new restaurants popping up from downtown Napa all the way to Calistoga. This is not a quiet season. This is a moment, and here is where it is happening.

St. Helena: a Bocuse d'Or legacy in the making

This is the story I am most excited to tell. Vincenzo Loseto, Chef de Cuisine at Press, just led Team USA to a gold medal win at the Bocuse d'Or Americas Selection in New Orleans, earning a spot at the Grand Finale in Lyon, France in January 2027. If you are not familiar, the Bocuse d'Or is often called the Olympics of cooking, and this win is a genuinely massive deal.

What makes it even better is the full circle nature of it. Loseto's own path to Team USA started through Ment'or's Young Chef Competition, which connected him to the very team that won America's first ever Bocuse d'Or gold back in 2017, coached by Press chef partner Philip Tessier. Tessier made history himself as the first American chef to ever medal at the Bocuse d'Or, taking silver in 2015. Today, the two chefs cook side by side at Press, which continues to hold its own Michelin star. Two gold medal legacies, one small kitchen in St. Helena.

St. Helena is also gaining a serious new wine destination in Elsewhere, a wine bar from Alinea cofounder Nick Kokonas built around a massive, globally sourced list, exactly the kind of concept that puts a town on the map for serious collectors.

Sonoma: a three star ascent

Just south in the town of Sonoma, Enclos has been elevated to three Michelin stars, an extraordinary achievement for a restaurant that only opened a few years ago. Chef Brian Limoges' intimate 30 seat space, tucked inside an 1880s Victorian just off the Sonoma Plaza, earned two stars and a Green Star within its first six months, and has now climbed all the way to the top of California's culinary elite, drawing heavily on ingredients from Stone Edge Farm.

Napa: downtown's biggest dining year yet

Downtown Napa has become a genuine dining destination in its own right. Normandie has brought old world French elegance and tableside service to the riverfront on Main Street, complete with a celebrated Dover sole and a martini bar quickly becoming its own attraction. Just across the way, BOA Steakhouse has landed at the newly reimagined Casa Mani Resort, bringing its Hollywood pedigree, dry aged prime steaks, and A5 Japanese wagyu north for the first time.

For something with more soul than sizzle, Stateline Road Smokehouse is smoking Kansas City style barbecue low and slow in the Rail Arts District, led by chef Darryl Bell, who trained at Bouchon and Press. And inside Oxbow Public Market, Rotation by Feast It Forward keeps things fresh with a new guest chef taking over the kitchen each month, having already welcomed talents like Chef Martin Yan and Bravo Top Chef winner Tristen Epps.

Yountville: a citrus scented refresh

Clementine has transformed a beautifully restored 1800s brick depot into a citrus scented Mediterranean escape, led by chef Rebecca Weitzman. Think wood fired flatbreads, burrata, and a breezy patio shaded by citrus and olive trees. The design alone, lime washed walls, hand illustrated menus, and vintage mirrors, makes it one of the prettiest new rooms in the valley. And of course, The French Laundry continues to hold its three Michelin stars, a reminder that Yountville's fine dining roots run as deep as its newest ambitions run high.

Calistoga: the valley's most surprising food town

Calistoga has quietly become one of the most exciting pockets of the valley for dining right now. Eight North has revived the beloved old Brannan's space into a wine focused restaurant centered on a live oak wood grill, with a rotating tasting room showcasing small Calistoga producers. Just down the street, Five Senses Modern Japanese has brought a 25 foot sushi bar and a fully open kitchen to Lincoln Avenue, led by chef Spencer Conaty, who trained at Morimoto, Atelier Crenn, and the three Michelin starred Saison before coming home to build something of his own. And later this year, French Laundry alum Erik Anderson will debut Ilora, a tasting menu concept with genuine Michelin ambitions, further cementing Calistoga's rise.

Why this all matters

Put it all together, a homegrown Bocuse d'Or legacy, a brand new three star restaurant just down the road, and a wave of chef driven openings across every corner of the valley, and it becomes clear this is not a coincidence. Napa Valley's culinary scene is stepping fully into its own, and it is only getting started.

Which of these are already on your list? I would love to hear where you are planning to book next, and if there is a spot I missed that deserves a shoutout, send it my way. I am always keeping tabs on what's new and noteworthy across Napa Valley and Sonoma, so follow along for more.
